Twelve teams are being sought for a men’s 14-inch softball league at Keaau’s Shipman Park.

The league will start Oct. 4 and run through November.

Hilo Aikane Tennis

club meets Tuesday

The Hilo Aikane Tennis Club will hold play from 7-10 p.m. Tuesday at Edith Kanaka‘ole Multipurpose Stadium.

Balls and court reservations are provided, mostly social doubles, club rules, depending on the number of people playing.

Members and guests are welcome to play for nominal fees.

Hilo Little League will be conducting its annual league membership drive and an election for Board of Directors from 10:30 a.m. to noon today at the Aunty Sally Luau Hale conference room at 799 Piilani St.

Karate championships

are Nov. 3 in Kona

The Kona branch of the International Karate League will hold its eighth annual championships from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Kekuaoklani Gym in Kailua-Kona.

Branches from around the island as well as Oahu and California have been invited to participate and the tournament will feature competition in kata (forms), kumite (sparring), and kobudo (Weaponry), for children, teenagers, and adults.

Master Walter K. Nishioka of Oahu, founder and chief instructor of the IKL, will preside over the event, which is free to the public and admission is free.

A horseshoe pitchers tournament was held Sept. 1-2 in Kailua-Kona at the Kona Palms Court.

The event attracted participants from Hilo, Kona and Oahu.
